'Our Own Way', is a most unusual of singles - the platonic love song. Over an infectious half-swung groove, it chronicles the dramatic changes that can occur in a family unit over time; reconciling the differences between what was then, and what is now. Bouncing bass and drums propel the sparse, contemplative verse along before exploding into a happy, hazy wall of sound with a joyous refrain. As frontwoman Senita Appiakorang's vocals float on a warm, rising tide of guitar and synth, they herald hope for the future born from the past, with the fond reminiscence tempered by an occasional note of melancholy.
"Impossible to confine to a genre... Sounds like wicked, dirty pop music tousled with a bit of soul and funk that melds into a velvety psychedelic haze." - Afropunk

lyrics
Papa was a nomad,
And mama she's a gypsy too.
Their love gave life so that
The fruit they bore knew love true
We all go our own way,
So let go, you can't chase me
In time we can all say
Our love, our love it persevered it all
Papa was a nomad,
And mama she's a gypsy too.
Their love gave life so that
The fruit they bore knew love true
And all was whole, buy holes crack
Cause all that holy in life too, can go bad
Chorus
We love unwantingly, eternally, our love
We love unwantingly, we love unwantingly
So let go, we ought to, there's no return
So let go we ought to, there's not return x 2
SHOOKRAH are a 5-piece outfit from Cork, serving fresh helpings of synth-grooves, interruptive hooks and dystopian romance-themed songs. Awarded 'Best Irish Band of 2017' and '50 People to watch in 2018' by The Irish Times)
This album is identity politics before such thing existed, and hits so hard that it hurts. Saw these lads play the Sugar Club as a support act in 2016 and they took the fucking roof off. This album still hits, even if some of the references have dated (Kony) they are still fun (Biggie, Fela Kuti, Chuck D, get shout outs). Such joy to hear Denise Chaila anywhere too! Album Club
